A kitchen-cabinet maker in Lahore was spending PKR 120,000 a month on boosted Facebook posts while his Google Maps listing sat there with seven reviews and no post since May 2025. His competitors in township markets around DHA and Bahria were taking the “carpenter near me” calls for free. We see this setup every week: money going to the paid channel nobody searches, while the free channel everybody searches sits empty. Here’s the thing. Maps invisibility is almost never one big problem. It is six small ones stacked on top of each other.

Running an unclaimed, inactive Business Profile is like renting a stall at Liberty Market and never putting up a signboard. Regular customers still find you. Everyone else walks past to the shop with the bright board, the displayed price list, and a crowd at the counter.

The listing that quietly stopped working

Start with the basics, because half of “Maps doesn’t work” complaints trace back to a listing that is unclaimed, suspended, or half-filled. Google Business Profile — the free listing that controls how your shop appears on Google Maps and in local search results — needs three things to even compete: a verified owner, an accurate primary category, and consistent name-address-phone data. Miss one and Google’s system quietly stops favoring you in the map pack, the block of three local results shown above regular search results.

Common failure points we see in Pakistani listings:

  • The shop was verified years ago by an employee or an agency using their own email, and nobody has the login anymore.
  • A well-meaning edit — new timing, new phone number — triggered a re-verification that was never completed, and visibility dropped. If your ranking fell after an edit, this is likely what happened; the recovery steps are in our guide to Google Business Profile edit ranking drops.
  • The category says “Store” when it should say “Kitchen Furniture Store” or “Dental Clinic.” Google matches listings to searches through categories first.

If you have never claimed your listing at all, start with the full walkthrough in how to get your business on Google Maps in Pakistan. Claiming takes a phone or video verification, usually a few days in Pakistan.

What the new view counts change

For three and a half years, shop owners posted offers on their Business Profile with zero feedback. Google killed the old post view metric in February 2023 and gave nothing in return. You would publish an Eid sale banner into the void and wonder if a single human saw it.

That ended on September 10, 2026. Google announced Google Posts Reporting, with view counts now appearing on each post card inside the Business Profile dashboard. According to Search Engine Journal, the feature covers posts published over a rolling 18-month window, includes all post types — updates, offers, and events — and combines views from Google Search and Google Maps into one number.

Google’s own announcement put it plainly:

Post view counts are “one of our most requested features yet.” — Google, September 2026 Small Business Bulletin

The fix is simple. Post one offer or update per week — a stock arrival, an Eid discount, a Ramzan timing change — and read the view counts after 30 days. If views are climbing, your listing is alive and Google is distributing your content to nearby searchers. If they sit near zero, your listing has a deeper problem: wrong category, a verification lapse, or a profile Google has quietly deprioritized. Either way, you now have a free instrument telling you which one.

The scam that steals your calls

Book Free Call

There is a second reason your Maps channel can look dead while it is actually being robbed. This month, Search Engine Roundtable documented scammers uploading AI-generated photos onto Business Profiles — photos with a fake phone number printed across the image. Customers call the number in the photo instead of the real one on the listing. The shop owner pays for the listing to work, the scammer intercepts the call, and the order goes somewhere else.

For a Lahore clinic or a Karachi appliance dealer, one intercepted call a day can be PKR 500,000 in monthly revenue walking to a competitor. Check your own profile photos weekly. If a stranger’s photo with a phone number appears in your gallery, remove it, report it through Google’s business redressal form, and re-check that your official number is still the one on the listing. This is a five-minute audit. Run it every Friday.

Reviews decide more than your ads do

The data on this is blunt. BrightLocal’s Local Consumer Review Survey 2026 found that 97 percent of consumers read online reviews for local businesses, and 71 percent read them on Google specifically — down from 83 percent in 2025 as Facebook and AI tools take a share, but still the single largest pool of decision-making traffic. So what? That means almost every customer who finds your shop on Maps is reading your reviews before calling, and a listing with seven old reviews loses that reading session to the shop with 60 recent ones.

Two more numbers from BrightLocal’s local search behavior research sharpen the point. 77 percent of consumers are put off a business by negative reviews. 54 percent visit a business’s website after reading positive reviews. Reviews are the gate between your Maps listing and your actual revenue.

Pakistani shop owners wait for happy customers to review on their own. That is the mistake. Build the ask into your WhatsApp follow-up: two days after delivery, send a one-line message with your direct Google review link. Customers here live on WhatsApp, not email, and a polite follow-up converts far better than a card at the counter. If reviews have vanished after a suspension before, recovering lost Google reviews has its own recovery path. One more wrinkle for 2026: businesses that get recommended inside AI assistants average 4.3 stars on ChatGPT, which means your rating now follows you into chat answers where younger customers ask for shop suggestions.

The 30-day checklist

Work through this in order. Each item is one sitting or less.

  1. Confirm you can log into your Business Profile with an email your business owns — not a former employee’s.
  2. Verify your primary category actually names what you sell, not a generic “Store.”
  3. Match your name, address, and phone number exactly across your profile, your website, and your Facebook page.
  4. Remove and report any photo in your gallery that contains a phone number you do not recognize.
  5. Re-check your official phone number and hours; correct them if a pending edit has stalled.
  6. Publish one post this week — an offer, a new arrival, or holiday timings — and note the date.
  7. Publish one post per week for four weeks, then read the view counts on each.
  8. Send the WhatsApp review ask to your last 20 customers with your direct review link.
  9. Reply to every review you receive, positive or negative, within 48 hours.
  10. If view counts stay near zero after 30 days of posting, get the listing audited before spending another rupee on ads.

At WeProms Digital, a local SEO and Google Business Profile agency in Pakistan, we run this exact audit as our starting engagement: claim, category, posts, reviews, and scam-hardening, typically inside 30 days. Most shops we see do not need a bigger ad budget. They need the free channel they already own to actually work. If you want that audit done for you, email hello@weproms.com or WhatsApp +92 300 0133399 — or start at the contact page.

How long does it take to start showing on Google Maps in Pakistan?

A verified listing with a correct category and complete details usually appears in local results within one to two weeks. Ranking inside the top map pack for competitive searches in Lahore or Karachi typically takes two to three months of consistent posts, reviews, and profile activity. New listings in smaller cities often rank faster because competition is thinner.

Why did my shop disappear from Google Maps after I edited it?

Edits to core details — name, address, phone, category — can trigger re-verification, and an unfinished verification suspends your visibility. Public profiles also accept suggested edits from anyone, which can introduce errors. Log into your Business Profile, check for pending verification or alerts, correct the details, and request a review if the listing is suspended.

How do I get more Google reviews without paying for them?

Ask at the moment of satisfaction, not later. Send a WhatsApp message two days after delivery with your direct review link, keep it to one line, and reply to every review you receive. Never buy reviews — Google suspends listings for it, and recovery from a suspension is far more expensive than the slow, honest route.

Someone put a fake phone number in a photo on my listing. How do I fix it?

Open your Business Profile, go to Photos, remove the image, and report it through Google’s business redressal form. Then verify your official number still shows correctly on the listing. Check the photo gallery weekly — this scam surfaced widely in September 2026 and targets shops that never audit their own profiles.

How much does Google Business Profile management cost in Pakistan?

Basic management — weekly posts, review responses, and monthly scam checks — typically runs PKR 25,000 to PKR 60,000 per month from a competent agency in Pakistan. A one-time audit and cleanup, including claim recovery and category correction, usually costs less and is the right first purchase. WeProms Digital scopes both after a free listing review.
